| In January 2007, after several years of searching, praying and asking, the Ebenezer Baptist Church was given 61.9 acres of land adjacent to its current location. Over 50 family members of the Hazelton family from all over the country donated their portions of the property. We are grateful to the many members of the Hazelton family for their donations. We are also thankful for Attorney Ed Johnston of Logan, Ohio who donated hundreds of hours of legal work to assist the church's acquisition of the property. Construction began in October 2007 on phase one of a two phase construction project. Phase one is a facility that includes a sanctuary that seats 300, nine Sunday school rooms and four offices. Below is a time line of the construction process |
| OCTOBER 2007 Following the conclusion of Jubilee 2007, the church congregation walked to the site of the future church for a ribbon cutting service. Members of the Hazelton family were on hand for the ceremony. In addition, the lane leading to the church was named in honor of Mr. Ed Johnston. NOVEMBER 2007 A representative group from Baptist Builders for Christ came to Ebenezer Baptist Church the first weekend of November to discuss the possibility of partnering with our church in the construction of new church facilities. Baptist Builders for Christ is a group of volunteer workers who build churches across the United States. They constructed 75% to 90% of our new church building labor-free. During the November 11th Sunday worship service the representatives from Baptist Builders for Christ made a verbal commitment to bring a volunteer force in the spring of 2008 to help with the construction. Three acres of underbrush and small trees were cleared on Saturday, November 17. This will enable engineers to shoot elevations. Special thanks to Jimmy Stimmel who brought in equipment for this work to be accomplished. DECEMBER 2007 Preparations for site preparation continued during December. The Building committee completed the final details on the building plans. JANUARY 2008 January saw a lot of behind the scenes work accomplished. The logistics committee met with Jim Sumners, logistics stagiest. Mr. Sumners commended the group for being on track with the building project. Team Member made a public commitment before the church. After the morning worship service on Easter morning, church members walked to construction site for the ground breaking ceremony. Among those participating in the ground breaking were Pastor Hubbard, former Pastor Charles Spier, and the building committee. Loren and Evelyn Howdyshell, the church's longest serving church members also participated. The Stewardship dinner was held Saturday, March 30. A presentation was given by Roger and Dodie Carpenter of the giving potential over a three-year period. At the construction site, preparation of the land continued. The clearing of the right of way for the three phase electric line was completed. We also had a donation of 500 gallons of diesel fuel and the use of a bulldozer. APRIL 2008 The remainder of the timber was harvested and removed from the site. A 93,000 lb. mulcher was then brought in the grind up the remaining trees that couldn't be sold. Site prep was finished and gravel was laid down for a driveway to the site. Excavation for the footers for the church was completed and concrete was poured for the footers. Foundation work began for the church. The kitchen tent was put up and trees were cleared for the electric line.
